The Home to Pub is a multisport event that will take competitors of varying abilities and fitness from Whitemans Valley in Upper Hutt to the town of Martinborough in the Wairarapa. Being a multisport event, the event will include a number of disciplines. The event disciplines, order and associated distances are as follows (in the order in which they will be undertaken):
Stage One - 3km Road Run
Event start at Katherine Mansfield Drive, Whitemans Valley, Upper Hutt. The event will start with a 3km run from 50F Katherine Mansfield Drive along the western side of Katherine Mansfield Drive, through the intersection of Katherine Mansfield Drive and Whitemans Valley Road and along Whitemans Valley Road to the intersection with Mangaroa Valley Road. Once across the single lane bridge at the start of Mangaroa Valley Road, the athletes will transition into the cycle stage.
Stage Two - 10km Road Cycle
Athletes will cycle from Mangaroa Valley Road to Maymorn Hall on Parks Line. The route will be Mangaroa Valley Road, into Flux Road and then Parks Line. From Maymorn Hall athletes will transition into the mountain run stage.
Stage Three - 26km Mountain Run
Athletes will run from the Maymorn Hall to Cross Creek via Tunnel Gully and the Rimutaka Incline Walkway. Once at Cross Creek, athletes will transition into the cycle stage.
Stage Four - 29km Road Cycle
Athletes will cycle from Cross Creek to the Ruamahanga River where they will transition to the kayak stage. The end of the cycle will be the Highway 53 road bridge 5km northwest of Martinborough. The cycle route will be from Cross Creek heading north on Western Lake Road through to the transition on State Highway 53 via Waite Street in Featherston.
The duathlon riders will continue down State Highway 53, to finish at the Pukemanu Tavern in Martinborough
Stage Five - 30km Kayak
The kayak stage comprises of a 30km kayak down the Ruamahanga River. Entry will be at the Ruamahanga River bridge on State Highway 53 road 5km northwest of Martinborough, while exit will be at the Ruamahanga River bridge on Kahutara Road. At the end of the kayak stage competitors will transition into the final cycle stage.
Stage Six - 45km Road Cycle Once transitioned from the kayak, competitors will then cycle into Martinborough. The route they will use is
- Kahutara Road turning right into Martinborough - Pirinoa Road
- Martinborough - Pirinoa Road turning around just past Pirinoa in 70km zone
- Martinborough - Pirinoa Road through to Martinborough
Entry into Martinborough will be via Jellicoe Street, Dublin Street and into Princess Street. Competitors will be asked to dismount from their bikes some 500m of the intersection of Princess Street and Kitchener Street, and will be asked to run the last 500m.
Stage Seven - 500m (0.5km) Road Run The final stage will be a run from the Princess Street cycle transition to the finish line in Martinborough.
